This is My Story
Graduating from University College Cork, Ireland just two weeks ago felt completely surreal, a moment I once wasn’t sure I’d live to see! To go from being so close to death to walking across that stage with a degree in my hand is a gift I’ll never forget ?
The Impact of Time
If my cancer was caught sooner, I might not have needed chemotherapy, radiotherapy and whipple surgery.
Things that once felt urgent or stressful may matter less. Time becomes something to spend intentionally rather than something that just “passes.”. for me living in the present becomes more important.
In my case, early detection didn’t play a role at all, and that’s part of my story! I spent months being told I was al right and having my symptoms overlooked. By the time I finally received a diagnosis, the cancer had already progressed, that experience showed me just how critical early detection is with pancreatic cancer. This disease is aggressive and often silent, so recognising the signs and taking them seriously can make all the difference! My journey has made me a firm believer in pushing for awareness, listening to your body, and advocating for yourself when something feels wrong.
For me, the gift of time feels incredibly precious, after everything I’ve been through, I feel so lucky to have been given this extra time to be with the people I love. Every day I get to spend with them, sharing conversations, laughter, ordinary moments, feels like something I don’t take for granted anymore. This time has become a true gift, one I hold close and cherish in a way I never fully understood before my diagnosis.
