My Story is about My mom
This event took place from 11/10/2020 to 10/22/2023
The Discovery
My mom had very intense itching. She thought it was because she changed laundry soap. When this went on for a couple of weeks, she went to her family doctor. The doctor ran bloodwork. Later that evening, her doctor called and told her to go to the ER because her liver enzymes were very high. They did scans in the ER and decided to admit her. The next morning around 6am, a surgeon came into her room and told her she had pancreatic cancer.
This is My Story
The Impact of Time
My mom’s surgeon decided she was a candidate for the Whipple surgery. In January of 2021, she had that done. Later in the hospital, doctors said she was stage three. She tried chemotherapy a few months later, but got a c diff infection and was unable to continue. She showed no evidence of disease until November of 2022. The cancer came back in her liver and lungs. She decided for quality of life over quantity. In July of 2023, she was placed on home hospice. I moved in with her to be with her and take care of her. I was grateful for the time, but anticipatory grief hit me hard. On October 22, 2023, she passed away with her family around her. I know many people don’t survive 6 months, and I’m grateful for the time I had with her, but I miss her like crazy.
